Next, always let your vehicle "warm-up" before driving away. It's amazing the number of people who start their cars, and immediately put it into gear, and drive off. This is very hard on your vehicle. Generally speaking, the colder the outside temperature, the longer you should let your car idle before heading out. Driving away too soon, especially in cold weather, is very hard on your engine, and even harder on your transmission! When it's cold outdoors, you want to get going ASAP, but it may pay in the long term if you just sit for a few minutes while your chariot's power plant and tranny warm up. Replacement engines and transmissions will set you back many thousands of dollars, so it will pay to remember - "warm-it-up" first. And even then, excellerate slowly for a few miles (if you can).

Oh Alan...i am the worst at starting my car and putting it into gear after a minute. One moment I dont want to idle too long for gas emissions and the other for getting to school on time.
I will think twice and plan a bit more ahead tomorrow and give my '99 volvo some time to warm up!
(i do change my oil every 3,000 miles!)

How are you doing with engine warm-up time Emme? Getting your oil (and filter), changed every 3,000 miles is great! Most ladies I've known, rarely think about it, and even when they do, it likely doesn't get done for awhile - sometimes a long while!Way to go "Super Emme" :)
